Summer update and health & safety
Updated: 4 days ago
As always the health and safety of the families in my program as well as my family are very important to me. I want to thank everyone for your patience and understanding throughout this time.
I understand that many are excited to get rid of the masks. At DiscoveryMeadowStudio/KindermusikbySallycommunity, we are continuing to have Adults and older children wear masks indoors.
As always KindermusikbySally community strives to be a no judgment safe zone and to respect that there are a number of ways to successfully parent. Parenting - especially through medical issues- is deeply personal and emotionally intense; we are all going to have passionate opinions. But to interact as a group we must agree to certain boundaries. This includes how we interact in class and guidelines for handling illness (see last picture). I hope you understand how hard I’ve worked to create a safe, supportive, and open environment by balancing ALL the different issues & needs.
I will continue to address the situation and share my decisions on policy changes openly as things change throughout the year. In the meantime, I wanted to remind everyone…
OUTdoors masking will be your choice.
INdoors masking will be as follows…
*No masks for 2 & under
*3-5 year olds encouraged but parental choice
*5& over, in classes without parents child will be required to have a mask and will be guided/directed to wear the mask especial when within 6 feet of others (I am understanding and work with needs/differences)
To make this decision, I consulted…
the CDC’s specific guidance for camps (updated in May), schools, childcare; a well known and respected Texas epidemiologist with knowledge of family/children needs; and local data & medical professionals.
Here is why we have made this difficult decision…
*your personal medical status and choices are yours- respecting privacy
*those with immune issues need masks to continue (I personally have to keep using the mask)
*some who can’t/aren’t vaccinated need masks to continue
*support & modeling help all of us, especially our children
*our general area is still having occasional outbreaks of community spread
*our indoor space has limitations; and singing is higher risk
Classes currently use In-person indoor and outdoor space. Different locations may have different policies. There will be limits on occupancy, cleaning procedures, and community thresholds (highlights can be found at the bottom of this post and details on the website page).
We suggest being respectful of others boundaries with distance. Different people have different bubbles right now. We have safe zones and encourage you to be honest and understanding (more info on safe zones and general classroom set up see https://www.discoverymeadowstudio.com/post/what-to-expect-studio-set-up).
I can/will do maskless class outside if there is interest. Also indoor classes may go outside for higher risk, maskless/mask-optional activities.
A virtual newborn/infant class is available if there is interest.
*also available if needed, I provide a cady with individual (often disposable) supplies like of of gloves of different sizes, anti-bacterial, wipes, I even have disposable masks available if you need one.
About my personal adaptions... *I personally will have available to use masks & shields depending on the numbers, location. This is precautionary because I will be singing loudly, so everyone can feel comfortable, and just in case at anytime I come within 6 feet of children/family. During times of medium and high risk I will wear both a mask and shield. Low risk/numbers mask only.
*Just for info for those who want to know, I am vaccinated but also immune compromised. So I will continue to mask but may occasionally feel comfortable taking off my mask (especially outside)— as long as no one else feels uncomfortable And if i’m away from everyone. Example: After fully vaccinated, IF you have a child who is afraid of the mask, you can ask me to remove the mask when I am within your bubble but away from other families.
*Let me know if you have trouble hearing me. I have a microphone for outside if/when it’s needed for everyone to hear me (usually only needed for drive in events).
Here’s a good picture quick reminder reference (shared by another great Kindermusik educator) general guidelines and “agreements“….
#1: Stay home if you know you or your child is sick/has symptoms. Although symptoms are not always easy to figure out, fever is obvious. Also right now other persistent symptoms not diagnosed by doctor as allergies/not contagious, exposure to someone Covid positive, etc.
#2 Hand washing. I have both soap & sink and antibacterial gel available.
#3 Masks (current rules listed and explained earlier in post).
#4 Social distancing - at this point, depends on personal comfort but also location rules.
#5 Instrument sharing will be kept to a minimum (within family bubble).
#6 Please inform me if anyone who came to class tests positive for anything highly contagious like COVID-19, but Also hand-foot-mouth, chickenpox, rsv, etc.
Specifics for my program will change with time. Below is a quick picture synopsis, and after that more current details…
Cleaning procedure synopsis...
Everything will be cleaned and sanitized between each class/family use- when I clean I use CDC approved cleaners and I wear a mask and gloves while doing so.
More classroom policies. Remember each location may be different, depending on the facilities rules. And things may change over time But for my home studio now it will be as follows...
*Inside limited to 4/5 families (12 people total), then eventually we’ll go to 6-8 families if things go well (and depending on facility). This summer we’ll likely be able to go to bigger groups or maskless- I ask for patience and understanding as I evaluate what is best for my studio.
*I will have a sink outside with soap, water, paper towels for washing hands before & after class. Also available individual hand sanitizer dispense, disposable masks, bug spray for outside activities.
A quick Reminder of other risk level policies if needed: low to medium risk/numbers outside in courtyard 6-8 families/groups; medium to high risk under 6 families outside; high risk drive-in class (6 vehicle) around the circle drive Or virtual.
My studio will be continuing with the plan I have set including a careful following of case numbers, variants, and expert (scientific) guidance on masks, distancing, and cleaning. I will continue carefully watching the data from NB, Schertz/Cibolo, and SA to make decisions on studio restrictions. And as things improve the restrictions will gradually be removed.
See on my websites health & safety page for details
If you are still concerned about Adult masking, here’s a bit more...
I realize that the whole discussion of masks & vaccinations can be tense. I am not interested in creating more stress; not interested in judging someone’s choices or opinions. I do have to think about my personal venerabilities. And we need some basic guidelines and respect for each other. So anytime it’s possible to be within 6 feet of another family like common areas, entries, moving/exploring around, please be aware of others. While in your own space or at your car or in open field away from others the choice is yours (depending on the location and numbers at the time you are welcome to take the mask off). I realize that with vaccinations and different opinions there may be some who doNot feel a need for masks. There are always going to be different feelings/choices, I am asking that we respect each other’s boundaries.
Note on Respecting each other...
We have a wonderfully diverse community, And there will always be a variety of personal choices that affect health & safety & social interaction. So that occasionally presents a challenge.
I respect that each person/family will make their own decisions about risk and assessment. And I know there are a variety of concerns from illness to development to lifestyle to vaccination. As stated above I will continue with my posted in-person rules which as always are carefully researched professional guidance (With some tweaks depending on situation), and I always try to carefully balance group dynamics and personal choice. I do not expect to use most specialized policies forever. However right now different locations and people have vary different needs and expectations and things change almost daily. So I am not sure when or what normal will ultimately look like- likely restrictions will change gradually through the year and depend on location needs. I do ask that you respect facility rules AND as always respect each other... Be understanding that small children don’t understand personal space bubbles, facial, or body cues; help your own children with modeling/redirection in respecting each other’s boundaries; privately address issues and agreements for increased contact with other members of class; be understanding that we are all human and no one is the same or perfect.
