Update: Health & Safety
Updated: 2 days ago
As always the health and safety of the families in my program as well as my family are very important to me. I wanted to remind everyone of my current policies and how they will change going forward.
April/May note: we’ll be opening up indoor in person classes. I am in the process on looking at what policies we will have And will be posted in here soon. In March we return to in-person outside classes (more on policies below including adult masks). In May we will begin in-person inside classes.
I will/can do maskless class outside in May if there is interest.
A virtual newborn/infant class is available if there is interest.
My studio will be continuing with the plan I have set (see on my websites health & safety page
This includes a careful following of case numbers, variants, and expert (scientific) guidance on masks, distancing, and cleaning. I will continue carefully watching the data from NB, Schertz/Cibolo, and SA to make decisions on studio restrictions. And as things improve the restrictions will gradually be removed.
Note on Respecting each other...
Parenting is a deeply personal experience and so are the decisions that go alone with it- great differences of opinion happen. We have a wonderfully diverse community, And there will always be a variety of personal choices that effect health & safety. So that occasionally presents a challenge. My rules always try to carefully balance group dynamics and personal choice.
I know we will all make our own decisions about risk and assessment - as always I respect each person‘s/family’s individuality. And I know there are a variety of concerns from illness to development to lifestyle. In class we have to find a balance. I will continue with my posted in-person rules which as always are carefully researched professional guidance (With some tweaks depending on situation). I do not expect to use these policies forever, but I am not sure when I will stop or what normal will look like- likely restrictions will change gradually through the year.
Below a reminder of how classroom policies will be handled. (Specifics for each location may be different, depending on the facilities rules. But for my home studio it will be as follows)...
*When we start inside we’ll limit to 5/6 families, then eventually we’ll go to 6-8 families if things go well (and depending on facility). Also this summer we’ll likely be able to go maskless while outside.
*Reminder of other levels if needed: low to medium risk/numbers outside in courtyard 6-8 families/groups; medium to high risk under 6 families outside; high risk drive-in class (6 vehicle) around the circle drive Or virtual.
*I will have a sink outside with soap, water, paper towels for washing hands before & after class. Also available individual hand sanitizer dispense, disposable masks, bug spray for outside activities.
*mask use will vary by age, space, and public health risk level
*Under 2 No mask use *Everyone over 2yo is encouraged to bring a mask but obviously I‘m understanding & Flexible with children because of age & need & situation. I treat masks like other kinds of protective clothing or adaptive devices- with acceptance and good humor and no stigma. *2-4 encouraged to have one available but parental choice, *5 & over required to try (with reminders, some special need exception). *Adults respectfully required to have a mask on for any/all close contact with those outside your family (or close contact group).
Instruments and mats and more...
*Inside or out, each family will have a mat, blankets, box of instruments/objects. This is your family’s safe zone. In your safe zone even adults can remove masks as needed. You can decide to either keep your zone isolated or allow another family to share- that is left to the Parent’s(adult) choice (please make these decisions outside of class so you are not putting another family on the spot). Please respect each families choice and boundaries.
*also available if needed/asked for... At-a-distance thermometer, gloves of different sizes, anti-bacterial, wipes, I even have disposable masks available if you need one.
About my personal adaptions... *I personally will have available to use masks & shields depending on the numbers . This is precautionary because I will be singing loudly, so everyone can feel comfortable, and just in case at anytime I come within 6 feet of children/family. During times of medium and high risk I will wear both a mask and shield. Low risk/numbers mask only.
*Just for info for those who want to know, I am being vaccinated. Because of this I May occasionally feel comfortable taking my mask if i’m away from everyone and as long as no one else feels uncomfortable. Example: After I am fully vaccinated, IF you have a child who is afraid of the mask, you can ask me to remove the mask when I am within your bubble but away from other families.
*Let me know if you have trouble hearing me. I have a microphone for outside if/when it’s needed for everyone to hear me (usually only needed for drive in events).
More specifics on adult masking if you have more questions...
I realize that the whole discussion of masks & vaccinations can be tense. I am not interested in creating more stress but we will need to have some basic guidelines to respect each other’s boundaries. So anytime it’s possible to be within 6 feet of another family like common areas, entries, moving/exploring around, please wear a mask. However while at your own mat/blanket (inside or out) or at your car or in open field the choice is yours (you are welcome to take the mask off). I realize that with vaccinations and different opinions there may be some who don’t feel a need for masks. There are always going to be different feelings/choices, I am asking that we respect each other’s boundaries and try to continue to use masks when interacting with those outside your family/ contact/ play group.
Here’s a picture a good quick reminder reference (shared by another great Kindermusik educator) and below I have several synopsis’ specific to my program...
Cleaning procedure synopsis...
Everything will be cleaned and sanitized between each class/family use- when I clean I use CDC approved cleaners and I wear a mask and gloves while doing so.
